Wasn't quite sure where to put this post so the "off topic" seemed appropriate.

My brother whom has moved several times in the last few years has asked me this question (see subject).

Well through out his moves it has only been 200 miles or so at a time. No big deal 3-4 hours and he was able to set it up again with limited loss (Bio). Well now he's back on the move and this time it's 900 miles and there is a possible overnight stay.

He was wondering if his 5 year old Tiger O would survive the trip.

My answer to him was not so much "IF" but when he did get settled if his bio would stay intact and not do a mini-cycle. I suggested that he should have one 5 gallon bucket with his O with a battery operated aeration with exsiting tank water plus some aquarium salt, PLUS one with the same (aeration plus tank water) for his filter media and some substrate. His guessing is that it may take 36-48 hours before completely resetting his tank.

I was wondering if I did give him the right advice, or if there might be a better way to do this. He will be moving in two weeks. I know his O will be stressed just because of the move and being cramped up for a possible 2 days.

Thanks for looking.

it might be better if he put his bio(over the air stone) in with his oscar, aeration unit and tank water. this way the bacteria would get an oxygen supply along with ammonia so they might continue go through the nitrogen cylce
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

I thought about that but seeing that this is a "Mature O" 10"+ in what I would condsider a small vessel that the more "mass" in there would take away from even the slightest possible water quality. Though your make a valid point to keep the bio with the O.
