with all the different kinds of fish in the aquarium trade im a little curious as to why people keep oscars.

for me it happenned when i was young. i went out with my older brother on night to one of his friends house for a party. in his living room there was a aquarium and in it were 2 tiger oscars. he had moonlighting on in the tank and i fell in love the gracefull oscars swimming around the tank. since then i always wanted oscars of my own and many years later i got my wish. now i have many different varieties of fish in my house in many tanks but one thing is a certainty and that is i will always have an oscar tank.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

when i was young my granpa called me and said he just picked up two big tiger oscars. so, the next day he came by, and we dumped them in a 55. they didn't last long (i had no idea how to keep them), but i admit i fell in love with them... i picked up a juvie a year later and have since always had an oscar in my tanks one way or another

ha ha ha... i started oscar by accident. i grew up in the
fish pond... when i started my city life, i missed having
fish around... so i started with tilapia... accidentally,
i got oscar thinking it was grouper in fresh water. i like
them because they grwo fast and taste good (sorry to all
oscar fish lover) i started this hobby as experiment for
backyard food production.

when i fall in love with my lemon oscar... i did not allow
any of my brothers to cooked them.... from there on... i
always ahve an oscar. i lost the next batch due to strong
storm... but i keep on getting another one.

I started off with a community tank which was what i was used to when i was at home with my mother, but after visiting the pet shop a number of times and seeing their show tank with 2 amazing oscars in it, i fell in love and decided this is for me.
so in time i managed to sell the community tank and get myself oscars, and im so glad i did, in my eyes theirs the best fish a man can have.
you seem to be able to get a bond with oscars, unlike most other fish.
2 Tiger Oscars, 1 Lutino Oscar, 1 Jack Dempsey, 3 Clown Loaches, 1 Blue Phantom Pleco.

Mine were a gift, hubby came home grinning so we put the tiny little things in the 30 gallon tank with the black skirts, needless to say that didn't last long. I did some reading and was shocked at how big they get so off to craigslist we went and found a big tank. So I guess they went from a gift to a decades long commitment.
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!
