The last place any of you would have wanted to be was that my house over the last couple of days.

To cut a long story short, I think I got some virus on my computer which brought to a standstill. It was either that, or something knackered my registry.

Anyway, luckily everything was backed up on my external hard drive........ until I had plugged the wrong powersupply into it :angry: I have lost absolutely everything. All programmes, documentation, the lot has gone, and I am absolutely gutted. Thankfully, I can remember most passwords. So I have been a bloody misery in the last couple of days. Anyway, the computer is sorted now and I have ordered a new external hard drive, 500GB, £125, Amazon was the only place I could find one, everywhere else is completely sold out.

I blame Hewlett-Packard for me plugging the wrong powersupply into the hard drive . It looks exactly the same as a laptop powersupply, same connector the lot. My sister has got Hewlett-Packard laptop that she hasn't used for while and I think that this is the powersupply from it.

Anyway, I put the razor blades away now and have calmed down a little

I know how you feel Boss, I haven't had any trouble lately but I got that last big virus that went around. I was at the point of wiping the whole thing clean cause it shut down my virus protection and any other I tried to download when a tech had a great idea, he sent me the protection under a different file name and I got it loaded and finally clean. I've often cussed my puter but I'd be so alone without it. I'm over 1000 miles from most of my family and all of my friends are online.

Did you lose all of your pics ?

everything went, even everything on my external hard drive because I completely destroyed it might like among our supply in. Anyway, there's no point in trying over it now.

I'm so sorry, I know you lost things you can't replace. I keep a backup of all of my important stuff on the spare computer, it's not internet connected so it's safe for storage. Maybe you have a spare laying around somewhere?

you might try to bring you fried hardrive to an it guru. i beleive that they might be able to retreive some of the data for you.

Penn.. you might wanna look into setting up a RAID on your laptop.. very few laptops come with it.. but basically you need two HDD and a powerful processor

what happens it that everything on your HDD is replicated to the secondary and even your OS etc etc.. and then if one crashes the other one is there for everything..
