Anybody watch the Deadliest Catch? The new series of deadliest catch lobster men has just started this evening. Having been a fisherman myself , and also worked on crab boats, I'm obviously enjoying all these series. However, what I just can't fathom out is why there is so much censorship. I can understand them bleeping out certain words as these programs they often go out before the watershed. However, why they have to go to the extent of blurring out the mouth movements when they swear is beyond me. Is that for the benefit of deaf people who may be lipreading?

it does seem pointless, you just have to hear the words before and after the bleep to know what they said.
i am a big fan of the deadliest catch, but haven't been able to get into the spin offs.
lobstermen has been playing for a couple weeks over here, and before that, they had "swords" about catching swordfish

I've always found it fascinating that the USA has got the largest pornography industry in the world, however censorship on television is far greater than most other countries. Very strange.
My brother-in-law who is the captain of a large fishing trawler was approached by the producers of deadliest catch in the hope of making a similar type program here in the UK. Whether it will come to anything, I know not, but it'll be something to look out for.

yeah, it would be nice to see something a little different. different accent atleast.
haha, i always find Man vs Wild just a little more interesting due Bear Gryll's accent
i love the discovery channel, i just wish they had more nature programs on, like they used to.

you know it might make more sense than you think. the more you are denied something, or teased about something growing up, the greater the desire to seek it out.
if a 12 year old boy sees blurred out boobies on tv, he is going to want to see the whole thing, just to know what he is missing,
or just to see boobs for the sake of seeing boobs

Bear Grylls is quite fun and comes across as a very nice chap, I've seen him being interviewed on various television shows here in the UK. However, I think he does a lot of his stuff to shock people. Come on, I'm sure that you can survive by taking liquid from an elephant turd, why doesn't he just tell us, he doesn't need to actually show us him doing it. I also don't think it's necessary for him to kill animals and eat them, I'm quite sure that a frog can save your life if you are in the wilderness, but he is not starving hungry and without food, after all, he's got a film crew following him.
Ray Mears on the other hand comes across as a sort of person that you wouldn't mind being stranded with in the wilderness, at least you wouldn't be forced to eat rotten sheep's eyeballs.
Les Stroud specialises in going out on his own and taking all the camera equipment with him, rather than a film crew.

bear grylls does do some nasty stuff. and you're right, i think he does rely on the shock factor to bring up ratings.
the worst thing i have seen him do, that made me want to hurl, was kill a snake, peel off the skin, and make a canteen out of it. but, what?! no water to be found?
he pees in it, then treks a couple of hours across the desert, then drinks the 100 degree snake-pee-soup! why?!?!

I bet his wife makes him clean his teeth a 100 times when he gets off one of his expeditions. I think the most disgusting bits are when he bites into a great big grub and all the guts and all end up hanging out of me if you par his mouth and dangling down his chin, absolutely gross

a while back i heard of a woman dying after drinking water from an elephant dropping. something like 5 days of vomit and diarrhea then death...
i could handle the bugs... the piss in a snake skin canteen... not a chance..... but there is no way i could do the eating bits and pieces off dead animals he happens to wander across... thats just going entirely too far.

you know, alot of it has to be staged. there was an episode where he was stranded on the coast of scotland. he comes across a beached shipwreck that must be half a century old. everything on it is rotting and rusting. he starts looking around in all the old rigging for something to use, and right there for the picking is a perfectly good peice of rope. like brand new rope, draped neatly across all the frayed, rotten mess. how convenient.
