has anyone watched dying for Everest? I watched it last night. 40 climbers walked passed another climber that was taking refuse in a small cave just below the summit dying. he had been there overnight and was unable to move but alive. 40 so called climbers walked passed this man in favor to make a bid for the summit. some 9 hrs later they passed him again on the way down, saying they didn't or couldn't help cos it would take 20 fresh men to get him down.
so why the bloody hell didn't the 40 or so fresh climbers on the way up help  If they are on there way up and can make the summit they could all help get the guy down. if they failed so what they tried. This made me so angry to watch these people, and so sad for his family. i can't see how they took part in making this program I would be ashamed to show my face. I have had friends die on Everest and many smaller mountains around the world. climbers accept that once you pass a certain point there is NO help. I have helped many other climbers myself and have always thought that helping was far better than passing by. ok so it wasn't on Everest and yes I do know how hard it is to even move let alone carry a man on Everest.
I think its the cost, these people not wanting to give up there bid for the top that counted here, not the fact that they couldn't help.

I suppose the desire to conquer the highest mountain in the world makes you very narrowminded and all you can see is your goal. How anyone could believe someone to die if something I cannot work out, maybe the next life for them will not be so good
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved
If you enjoyed that watch TOUCHING THE VOID if you haven't seen it.
In the mid-80's two british climbers attempted to reach the summit of Siula Grande in Peru; a feat that had previously been attempted but never achieved. With an extra man looking after base camp, Simon and Joe set off to scale the mount in one long push over several days. The peak is reached, however on the descent Joe falls and breaks his leg. Despite what it means, the two continue with Simon letting Joe out on a rope for 300 meters, then descending to join him and so on. However when Joe goes out over an overhang with no way of climbing back up, Simon makes the decision to cut the rope. Joe falls into a crevice and Simon, assuming him dead, continues back down. Joe however survives the fall and was lucky to hit a ledge in the crevice. This is the story of how he got back down. ..
I HIGHLY recommend buying it BLU-RAY. One of the best movies I've seen in the last 20 years.
ASK YOURSELF...IF YOU WOULD HAVE THE CHOICE OF DYING FOR SURE OR CUTTING YOUR BEST FRIEND LOSE AND POSSIBLY LIVING WHAT WOULD YOU DO? TO THIS VERY DAY THE MATTER POLARIZES THE MOUNTAIN CLIMBING COMMUNITY....
@ johnny I have seen touching the void. been to a seminar by Joe and met him. i would say he done the right thing in those circumstances. I too have sat at the end of a rope for 3-4 hrs on a ledge the size of a footprint halfway up a mountain not knowing what was going on. i gave up waiting and climbed to find the rope frozen to the ice and my mate sat on another ledge wondering what I was doing too. )
@ tony if they wasn't good enough they wouldn't be on Everest. at £10K+ to climb people become very fixed on there goals. those guys are good, but have little emotion when it comes to others.

I've heard he's a bit of an asshole...no? I'd love to meet him. I suppose if you're not an asshole you would never survive what he did. I did fall in love with 'Boney M.' after that movie....'Brown Girl in the Ring...Tra-la-la-la-la-la!'
