Mr. Administrator,

I was logged in and writing a new message and when I submitted, I found out I was logged out already and the message was gone. If you control that, we are being logged out too quickly. I can understand that if there is inactivity yes, but I was on line about 5 minutes and all my typing went for nothing because it disappeared into cyberspace when I hit submit and the message said I was not logged in. You really need to make the time out much longer. I'll bet others have experienced the same frustration and dont participate here because of it.

Not sure what is happening, I haven't had that problem. When you sign in, are you ticking the little box that says "remember me"?

Are you actually being logged off the website?

NO, I haven;t ticked the box to remember me, but I have found that since I joined, it logs me off pretty quickly. I know, because I always need to log back in, sometimes while I am still here surfing the site. I posted that message about my mating pair and when I submit it, it didnt accept it as I was mysteriously logged out already and I had to type it all over again after logging in again..

Try ticking "remember me" I have just been having a look at the configurations and I can't find anything about so-called "timeout settings"

I thought I'd better add that the remember me box is just underneath where you put your username and password in.

After ticking the "remember me" box lst night, it seems to be working alot better now and as soon as I open the webpage, I am logged on. Thats great. But I'll bet others had or have the same problem and were being logged off quickly. I often look to see "whos on line" and that list is always short and signed in members dont stay on long at all. I wonder if thats by choice or by accident...Glad I am now squared away...

Glad you sorted your problem out. I thought that's what it must be since I don't get the problem. I'm hoping that people see that little box and tick it.

We don't get many members on at one time. Mind you, we had 5 registered members on last night (not including the guests) Having said that, we have now got 253 registered members which I think is really good considering the site has only been live since the beginning of December. We are also doing really well on the search engines, especially Google. From search engines alone, we are getting around 250 hits a day. If you include all referrals, you can knock that to around 300 hits a day. The more people that use the site, the more popular it will become and the higher up on the search engines it will go.

It does take time for sites to become popular so we will just have to wait and see. Thankfully, Oscars seem to be a good subject so there are always people looking for web sites.

At some stage, I will be looking for a moderator. I often have to move subjects around because that have been posted in the wrong place, I can't be on here all the time so it will be helpful to have someone to help out. They don't have to be an expert in computers, it's quite straightforward.

Well, you have a willing and capable volunteer here. I am generally very computer literate, have had my own website which I built on my own (on line store, which I am now out of) and I do spend a fair amount of time on the net etc. Should you need an assistant, just let me know. It helps should you ever get a new member who quickly joins then begins posting all the wrong sort of material etc. But like you said, just to rearrange postings to their proper section too for a little maintenance or whatever. Personally, I'd like to see this site remain successful. Oh yea, I found you by Google too!

Well actually, I did have you in mind since you on here quite a lot. I've just got to work out how to adjust things so other people can moderate the forum properly. I've just joined under a different username and appointed it moderator. But I didn't have any control over the board so I am going to have to look into that a little more deeply I think. What I am going to do is change a few settings so you are a moderator and then you can turn they if you have any extra controls under the first post in each forum. You should be able to move threads amongst the forums and lock forums as well.

I'd also look into being able to delete inappropriate posts (politics, advertising,, profanity etc) and delete or lock same members from posting. Now mind you, I fully realize this is your gig and I will only intervene for some serious violation but if I see something out of place I will adjust or move it for the good of the group. I am willing to help. I travel for business so there may be days at a time I am not on here but then others I am on line alot for days too.

If I make someone a moderator, I will need up to their discretion to decide whether something is inappropriate or not. Up until a week ago, I was allowing guests to post on here and I started getting spam so only registered members can use the forum now. You would have had your work cut out then, believe me

If it works like any other forum, you'll be able to delete posts, move things around , locked topics, and basically make sure that things run smoothly. Thankfully, I haven't had the need to locked topics apart from a couple. I think as the forum gets more popular, which I hope it will do, we will have a little more work to do.

As soon as I got this sorted, you will probably noticed a few changes your end. You sound pretty keyed up on computers so it should be quite straightforward. If you need to move something, you will have a drop-down menu of all the forums, just choose the one that you want to move the thread to. The rest are self-explanatory really. Anyway, the Sun has finally come out here, going to get some rays

Its sunny here now but we expect clouds shortly and a nor'easter by tomorrow. Going to get driving rain, howling winds and possibly sleet or snow too. Going to be a mess here for the next few days. Same storm left tornados in its wake back west. Enjoy the Sun....
