earthquake and tank 1 year, 10 months ago #89426

so i live down in san diego california
and we just had a big earthquake
6.9
and man was my tank moving water around i thought the tank was going to tip over no joke.
i went to go hold it out of desperation but thought id better get the hell out the way cause if it wanted to tip it was going to tip no way i was stopping 135 gallons of water.
water was on on the floor that i had to mop up after it was all said and done
crazy but true story

Hope there's no other damage.
Paul had what he called a Minor eathshake lately of 3,5.
But the bottomplate of his tank cracked by it...
I guess your stand has proven to be sturdy!

haha ya i built that stand like no other!!!

Re:earthquake and tank 1 year, 10 months ago #89445

no damage to the tank from what i could see but i got water mark on the back of the tank that i can get to cause the tank is up against the wall. if that tank cracked at all i would be so angry. the FX5 got air into it i guess cause after it started making noise like air was inside then cleared itself

Not only would you be angry, but you'd have your hands full with work you wouldn't like.
I bet you will enjoy your tank even more today!lol

im actually affraid of it now
the tank stands 6ft high
and its in my room against the wall but the bad thing is that i have it at the foot of my bed so that means if it come crashing down im getting smashed well at least my feet are going to be....
im paranoid now think im going to sleep in the living room haha
i wonder if anyone has ever had an earth quake and actually have one of there tank come falling down?

You serious?
My highest stand is 5 foot and with the 2,5 foot tank on top it's a pain during maintenance.
I can hardly reach the gravel.
You use a ladder for maintenance ,or what?

Re:earthquake and tank 1 year, 10 months ago #89454

ok maybe i typed this wrong lol
the stand it self is 4ft high
plus tank is 2ft
which comes out to a total of 6ft high
and yes i use a ladder when its time to clean the tank
its more of a stool that i use
but i like the tank being higher up
the next tank i get i want maybe 7ft tall
so it can be more at eye level
but dont no if thats bad or not haveing a tank so high up

Yes, it is bad.
I got the tank for free as a replacement for a 18Gl 2 footer.
This ones is 2 foot wide as well, but the strange dimensions make it a 90Gl.

Eye level tanks look cool...
But i'm allways balancing to do the maintenance and if i had to do weekly maintenance on that tank, i'd give it away.
But as we say in Holland;"You shouldn't look into the mouth of a horse that was given to you..."
