Just got back from my 3yr old son's Dr. appt. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with him (which has no bearing on his developing Type 1) so I've played this game before. But I only had to do it for a couple months. He has to take insulin for the. rest. of. his. life. And he's ONLY FUCKING THREE!!! WTF?!

It's not that I'm not prepared to take care of this disease. It's just what it means for him for the rest of his life; that breaks my heart.

I'm not posting this looking for sympathy, I'm posting this because I'm so incredibly worried and pissed off that I need to vent. This forum is unfortunately the only outlet I have at the moment. I can't unload on Gregory because he's dealing with it same as I. Thanks for reading I guess. It's time for me to go suck down a beer or two now.

Hun I am so sorry... I know it is hard to know your child will have to deal with this for the rest of his life, but it is not as bad as it could be... You have to think positive. It will all work out. And by the time he is 10 this will be no big deal... It will be just a fact of his life...

Again. Chin up Hun! It will be ok! And if you need to talk, I am always here!

Thanks for the support Nicki. I know it will be okay. Well....as okay as it can be. It's just a really hard thing to wrap your head around you know? Your toddler has diabetes. *sigh* I KNOW it could have always been worse. They could have said he had kidney failure, or it could have been cancer. Diabetes is manageable and kids with Type 1 now live long healthy lives. It's still not an easy thing to stomach.

I called work and my boss insisted I stay home tonight. He said I should be here with my family, not worrying about stupid electronic product resets. lol It's a huge relief knowing I have the support of my boss too.

Now for another beer or 3 and a good night's rest. :/

So sorry to hear that. yeah, as parent too, i know how does it feel
knowing your kid had a problem. All i can say is "entrust your baby
to GOD and do what is needed to be done". your baby can overcome that
and who knows, a miracle could happen as he grow.

yeah a drink for appreciation of having friends somewhere that could
lighten the burden is a good move. just hug that little boy for me...

a prayer from me and the family will always be with you and your boy.

Sorry to hear that.
I know how you are feeling.
When my baby boy was born, he looked like a fr#@kin alien.
Purple and scared from neck to feet.
He was diagnosed with Ichthyosis, the fish-skin-disease.
Ironic, but true.
Hope this doesn't shock you, but this is what our baby looked like:

Only 4 in a million get this disease.
Only one out of 4 diseased children survive, and the ones that do survive, are known to suffer from the disease for the rest of their lives.
But we started praying for the baby and we have seen a miracle happen.
Within a week we could take him back home.
We anointed him 8-10 times a day and he recovered in a miraculous way, and at an incredible speed.
This is him 3 months later:

I can only quote what Paul just said:All i can say is "entrust your baby
to GOD and do what is needed to be done". your baby can overcome that
and who knows, a miracle could happen as he grow.
I'll be praying for your kid!
Hang in there!

Thanks guys. We were supposed to be seen by a pediatrician in town today, but those morons don't diagnose children with diabetes. Now I have to drive 2 hours to go to the university hospital so that Isaac can be seen today so he can be treated immediately. Sometimes living in a small town SUCKS!

Just read your post about little Isaac.

My youngest son (now age 6) was born with the HNF-1B gene mutation which means aside from cysts in his brain, kidneys and heart and short stature, he'll develop MODY. From what I've read, the MODY form of diabetes is not as difficult to manage as Type 1, but I know just how devastated I feel on behalf of my son; simply because of the life long influence diabetes will have in his life. Of course it's manageable, and diabetes care and treatment is getting better every year, but it's understandable to feel frustrated, angry, indignation and sorrow, plus a whole lot more - particularly at the beginning.

Don't give yourself a hard time about how you're feeling. It's scary and a lot of hard work to'ing and fro'ing miles to see the right doctors but it will get better. It'll be tiring and frustrating but WILL get better. I promise.

Thanks Claudia, I really appreciate that. And just to let you know, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It's not nearly as horrifying or hard as most people imagine.

So after spending the last 3 days cooped up in Doernbecher Children's Hospital; I am fully confident that we can manage this disease. The RNs and the Dr.s @ OHSU were amazing. They were all super helpful, and we learned a LOT. It's honestly not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Take everything you know about diabetes and throw it out the window because it most likely will not apply to Type 1 diabetes. lol We walked in expecting special diets and meal plans, and all kinds of scary nightmares. Not so. Isaac can eat what he wants, we just adjust his insulin accordingly. It will not affect him in anyway, other than he needs to keep an eye on it, so that his sugars don't drop (which can kill him very quickly), and so his sugars don't stay high (which could eventually kill him by making his body acidic). In other words, he can pretty much do and be what he wants when he grows up. No military service, but that doesn't break my heart in the slightest. LOL

I'm actually glad we had to make the drive to Portland. (Didn't expect we'd be staying the night, let alone 3 days...) I trust the Doc's at the Children's Hospital WAAAAAY more than I'd trust the local yokels.
