A new series of Bear Grylls, born survivor started this week. This week we found him on an isolated island not far from Panama in the Pacific. Anyway, either he has got fed up with eating just about anything that crawls, or there was nothing on the island, I think he managed to catch a fish and actually cooked it. He built a raft and set sail. he came across a tiny little rocky islands which he proceeded to climb. It was covered in bird crap apparently smelt horrible. When he got to the top he found a couple of birds eggs and proceeded to eat one of them, although it was going off. Then he was climbing down and came across some water that had collected in a small crevice. The water was full of bird crap but that didn't seem to matter.

So we are on the open seas again and he decides that rather than drink the water which is quite obviously almost undrinkable, he is going to give himself an enema. So he continues to shove a tube up his backside. For crying out loud, he just has to tell us that that is one way of taking on water without drinking it, why the hell does he have to do literally do it? I don't know how anyone can take him seriously, it seems to me that he is just going out of his way to shock and disgust people. After watching tonight's episode, I really don't think I'm never bother watching any more, they are just laughable.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. It always makes me laugh when I watch one of his programmes, I like to count the number of times he mentions being in the special forces. And like you say, he has a big team with him. There is absolutely no need for him to kill the amount of little critters that he does, I just think it's so unnecessary. he slaughtered a wild boar the other day, it was rather barbaric to be quite honest.

I think he was in Vietnam on one show and he was taking a short cut through an old railway tunnel. Anyway, it just happened across a big frog minding its own business sitting in a tube on the side of the tunnel. So what does he do? Grabs hold of the frog and bites its head off and continues to eat it raw there and then. The next minute he's walking out of the tunnel and hopping into a helicopter. All I can say is I hope in his next life he comes back as a frog and happens to appear on a reality survival show.

penn, i do see yr points, they r all valid...especially when he lets ppl know about 10000 times an episode how many times he was in the special forces n how many times he nearly died on everest but i do enjoy watching the shows cos he makes me laugh so much..i.m.o ray mears does the exact same job of illistrating survival techniques without all the stuff bear does...it seems like he is contasntly tryin 2 out-do himself as to what is the most random thing he can do/eat i.e eat the apple out of bear shit and say ' it tastes like dog poo ' (well duh? lol) however strangly it makes me wanna keep watching! cos i too wanna see what stupid shit he does next! lol

altho i av 2 say if i saw a bloke giving himself an enema on a raft i would also ask myself serious questions as to why im watching lol

I like the grylls program. I do find it strange that he had no water but had a tube to use for the enema, personlly instead of taking a tube with me i would have taken extra water ))))

Seriously, who carries a random tube with them??

I don't care for his show. It does seem that he kills and eats random things just for the shock factor of it.

There was another guy who had a show on survival after an apocalypse (think nuclear, or biological attack). I only saw one episode (might have only been a one time show too) where he was running through the rundown abandoned areas of New Orleans; showing you how to make a radio and how to pump gasoline and whatnot should you need to survive in an urban environment. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Bear, and it was actually pretty informative.

My main issue with the show, aside from the killing animals thing, is that he let everyone assume that he really was putting himself in harm's way, and really was surviving in 'inhospitable' circumstances for prolonged periods. Not sleeping in a hotel at night, or pretending he's 'in the wild' while in reality he's less than a mile from civilization. He never came clean about the reality of the situations until he was 'forced' to, essentially.

Basically it's false advertising, and while he never 'lied' about it, not offering up information is tantamount to deception in my book. It's like dating a girl and having her seeing someone else at the same time, which you didn't know, and finding out about it. Maybe she didn't out-and-out lie to you and say she wasn't, but she never told you either, and gave you every reason to assume she was not. I make no distinction between the two in regards to dishonesty.

--'You never told me...'

'Well, I never said I wasn't.'

--'But you gave me every reason to believe you weren't'

'You never asked...'
