I saw one in the pet store and I just think they're ADORABLE! I did a little research and got discouraged about keeping one right now due to space and $ but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for the future...

yes i have had a chameleon. it was a veleid chameleon it was very cute. they need proper lighting and a dirt ground. but u have to get a ficus tree. and i recommend a couple of branches so he/she can climb down and up. mine sons chameleon is still alive and its 5 years i would only recommend it if u could spray the leaves every 3 hours because that is the only way they get water i will post a pick of our chameleon and what kind are you thinking of. i have heard panther chameleons are more espensive some can be up to $100 i would recommend ordering it from ReptileDepot.com i got mine from there it was $27

The original post is 7 months old so they might not need to know now.

I keep a Veiled and have to disagree with your post. They don't need dirt, they don't need a ficus, they don't need spraying every 3 hours.

The best substrate is no substrate. They don't live on the ground. Paper towel or newspaper will do fine if you want to use anything.

A ficus is one of many plants that can be used. Personally I use pothos. it grows fast and is vine like, so can be wrapped around the enclosure and it's safe if eaten.

Yes they need a decent humidity and don't drink standing water but to spray every 3 hours is very excessive. Twice a day for 5 - 10 mins at a time is plenty. In addition you could use a drip system for the drinking water or an automated mister on a timer.

i had two chameleons. one was a Flap-necked Chameleon and the other was a Namaqua Chameleon.

the Flap-necked Chameleon lived in one of the trees that was in our garden and the Namaqua Chameleon was also in the garden, but he just stayed on the ground.

one thing i learned is that chameleons bite very hard (they can make the blood flow)
