This is Belle.

She's a 4-5 year old Min-Pin/Doxie mix. We got her several months ago from Craigslist and she settled into our home nicely.

But over the last month or so she's been peeing and pooping in the house and I can't figure out why. It's always in the same place too, over by the piano and the 135gl. She's let out numerous times a day (in fact every time hubby goes outside to smoke he takes both dogs) gets plenty of attention, exercise, and is the only dog allowed to sleep in our bed. If we leave the house for only 20 minutes she'll pee or poop on the floor even after being let out before we leave. Last night instead of whining to be let out (like she usually does) she shit all over the foot of the bed and the floor on my hubby's side of the bed. Needless to say he wasn't impressed.

I don't want to kennel her every time we leave, or every night, but I just don't see that I have a choice anymore. I'm not sure what's changed for her to make her start doing this. Ideas?

Any major changes in the house?

clean the area she is going with a 5 parts water 1 part vinegar mix.

Has she been to the vet lately? Bladder infections can cause this... And so can just being a shit... Kenneling her for a while may be the only option...

I would rule out medical conditions like was suggested. She looks so sweet - perhaps it's an act of submission? Is she confident or on the other end of the spectrum - overly shy? Submissive/insecure dogs can behave that way sometimes.

You must get the smell out - she could have just had an accident and now the smell is there, she thinks it's her toilet. "Nature's Miracle" is a product that is readily available and works well.

It's so hard to tell - I wish dogs could talk.

Well nothing in the house has changed. Other than the chaos that was Christmas and it's ensuing aftermath of toys everywhere.

I'm going to take her to the vet and have her looked over. She should be going into heat soon and I'm wondering if that might be the issue. Scout our other dog is fixed, so I'm not worried about doggie porn going on and ending up with puppies. I'll talk to the vet and see what he thinks about it and if getting her fixed will help.

I've got a friend who works for the local janitorial supply and he's got a spray that apparently works better than anything else out there. He says Nature's Miracle can't hold a candle to it. Guess I'll try it out and see.

like they said, get all of the smell out, because if she can smell it she will keep going there.

i have two small dogs, and have learned that they are MUCH more difficult to potty train than large ones. they tend to have "relapses", and forget the rules from time to time.
do you have carpet or hard floors?

i think that the weather outside is also a contributing factor. it's cold as hell, and mine don't like doing the deed out if it is raining or cold out.
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

Old trick is to put paper or old bit of carpet down where your dog will pee or poo. let it pee/poo on it then move it to where you want your dog to pee/poo. leave the poo/pee on it so it smells. then do as Nicki says. clean the old poo place so there is no smell. you can get some chemical from the pet shops to put a dog/cat off pooing in an area if the cleaning don't remove the smell. show the dog the new poo spot.

I know it sounds harsh [and probably is] but after breaking up fights with 60-70kg mastiffs
a cattle prod can be a remarkable training tool, paticularly if one just bit through your arm!
but it'd work on the lil fellas too if you caught em' in the act!
