This evening i am counting out the large hikari pellets to feed to my oscars and as usual one of my cats is paying a great deal of attention to me (when i feed my oscars prawns i usually throw a prawn or 2 to him). I counted out the pellets into a lid and looked up at the fish and then the cat nicked and ate a pellet. I know cats like to watch and eat fish but now i know they will eat fish food. Gonna have to be more careful next time!

That's nothing! My darn German Shepherd has TWICE gotten ahold of a big bag of Hikari Cichlid Gold large pellets and devoured the entire bag! The second episode happened just this morning. I swear, that dog will eat just about anything!

Gggrrrrrrrrrrrr........

(But she's so cute!)

Need to give away one healthy 1 year old Oscar if you know of anyone interested. See the adoption thread for photos. Thanks!

Glad it's not only my cat that helps himself to my Oscars pellets

Hahaha:lol:
That all sounds very familiar. I dropped the can with the fishfood once and went to get something to help me pick up the mess again, and when I returned, it had magically disappeared while the dog was lying on her cushion like before.
And recently I ordered 5 kg of rat food and put the bag in the hallway shortly. Next thing I knew was I had only about 3.5 kg left for unknown reason. Strangely, the dog crapped funny for 2 days

Reminds me I read on a German website how some ppl actually feed dry cat food to their Oscars, anyone tried that yet? I dunno really if I would.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

I remember my dad telling me years ago how he was skint and waiting for payday and he had no fish food so he fed his oscars canned dog food. He said they ate it but it made the tank murky for a while. I wouldnt recommend feeding oscars canned food, they can go for a week without food easy

I suppose dried dog or cat food will do the trick without making the tank murky but it isnt recommended as it might have the wrong kind of fats in it

ill cook up chicken n steak in no fat or oils. just cut em in lil chunks n pan fry em n feed it to my oscars every now n then .. just a small amount, they love it.. and ill give em backed potato choped up. n other veggies..

Yes, was thinking the same thing. I didn't bother yet to compare the ingredients or fat content though.

Neither tried anything yet like fried chicken or steak and won't do that neither, I tend to be way more careful with what I feed to my Oscar than with the dog, lol.
