first of all, welcome on board....
then for your inquiry...
how big is your tank???? 4 molly is not enough to start cycling big tank...
and any wrong approach will render your effort useless in cycling...
give us : tank size; filter capacity; how long you set up?

Its a 55gl with a fluval 305 filter the outtake part is going into my UGF and then on the other side of the tank i have a powerhead pulling water up from my UGF. It has been running for just about 3 weeks with the mollys and i have done water reading about ever 3rd day right now the readings are .25 ammonia .50 nitrite and just starting to see some nitrates coming in the past day. thanks

The fuzzy stuff on your driftwood will not hurt a thing... It should go away in time.
It's NOT smart to piss off the girl with the BAN button!

thanks for the info.... with this data, your cycling is kicking in... i suggest
you get a few more molly to increase the waste that would feed the beneficial
bacteria.....

and yes..Nickie is right, the white stuff is just a wood reaction with water.
it will not affect your fishes..and will be gone in time...

Usually that's the case. Depending on the size of fish you plan on getting. The way I understand it is you want to get small fish that can turn into food when the tank is done cycling.
You ain't leading but 2 things... Jack and Shit... and Jack left town.

You can leave the fish to be oscar food or you can remove them (and either put them in another tank or rehome) at the same time you add your oscars

With your UGF do you have 2 uplift tubes? If you do and you got the output from a filter going down 1 tube and a power head pulling water up the other then you are going about it wrong. What you are doing is creating a flow down on tube and then back up the other. What you need to do is get a flow down both tubes and up through the gravel. So turn the powerhead round so it pushes water down its uplift tube
I can't get no sleep

The mollys i was just going to take back to the LFS dumb fish but got attached to them and dont want to see them get eaten theres 4 of them all about 2in long i also got 5 ghost shrimp in the tank but those going to stay for food. Kids love the shirmp for some reason.

On the UGF i have 3 up take tubes the one in the middle has a air pump attached to it then the one at the far right of the tank is my filter pumping the water down into the UGF and the one on the far left is the one the power head is attached to. So should i have both the filter and power head pumping down or can i have the power head pulling water up and rippling the surface because when i turn it blowing down there not much movement at the surface but for the middle bubbles? Ill get some pics posted thanks for the help
