1.I've already read almost everything on this website but i still want some recommendations from the people. OK so i have a 21 gallon tank to keep my Oscar (once i get it) in when I'm cleaning the bigger, 55 gallon (which i will get sooner or later according to the answers i get). but do u think i can keep the Oscar when its still a baby in the 21 gallon? and once it outgrows that i can put it in the 55 gallon?

2. how many times should i feed it? I've heard of people feeding their fish one big meal a week or feeding them small things up to 2wice a day. and also, what should i feed it as a baby and what should i feed it when it grows up and how much?

* oh and 1 gallon is averaged 3.8 litres

Hey there,

Ok Let me just say you would be FAR better off cycling the 55 and putting your Oscar in there right away. The 21 gallon would make it hard to keep your water levels good enough. So IMO I would cycle your 55 and put the baby in that tank straight off.

As for food, As a baby 1in-6in feed what he will eat in 3 minutes twice a day. From 6in to adult, feed what he will eat in 3 minutes once a day.

You need to get a good quality pellet, they range in sizes from Mini's to Lg... That way you aren't feeding your baby a pellet the size of a pea.. LOL And I would recommend Hakari Gold, or Hakari Biogold.

Hope this helps.

ive herd people keeping oscars in small tanks so they can put them in there big tank at a good size so as long as you get the big tank realy fast then sure its not like you have another options either lol. And also you should probly feed your oscar two times a day its my opinion that i dont agree with one big meal a week. Its when ever its convenient for you as well, itd be best to get them in a ruitene so they know when food is comming. IM sure they can live with one meal a day as well, like i said when ever you can feed them cause im on summer break so i can feed them any time of day. But when school starts i can only feed them in the morning and night.

another thing oscars like veriety so try to switch foods up ever other meal or something, cause i know id kill myself eating the same food every day so its the same with fish. Also idk what your tank situation is right now i hope you dont have any tank mates in your 21 gallon tank.

get the 55 gallon first. cycle it, then get your oscar. the grow about an inch a month while they are young.
Current Tank Setup:
30 Gallon (will be upgrading very soon!):
-One Oscar (Watchmacallit) 7-8inches

Dont put an oscar in a 21g. Oscars grow real quick and will soon be too big for you to be able to maintain good water quality. Get the 55g and cycle it, then buy your oscar!!!!

x2, they grow so fast and were talking minimum size tank here.
If you can get a bigger one than a 55Gl,your fish will love you for that.
