hey guys ive just paid for my 235g uk tank so it should be delivered next weekend.

as always ill be stripping the tank right down re building it so i know its been done right.

obviously as i like to do things myself i will be looking into building my own cabinet aswell which is gonna be a huge undertaking could u guys give me sum info on what wood and designs your cabinets was build with.

also post sum pics of yr cabinets please so i can steal sum ideas.

That is a lot of weight, I hope you know what you're undertaking. MDF is perfectly okay as long as it's built properly. Just remember you need enough support, especially where the doors open at the front. If I was you, I would go and have a good look at Cabinet in one of the shops and see how it is constructed. You're talking to tons of water plus there, you don't want a poorly constructed cabinet folding up underneath all that weight. If you want to do it more expensively and grandly, I suppose you could use oak. Or you could use breeze blocks. However you do it, make sure it's nice and level. Unfortunately, that's about as much advice as I can give you since I've ever built a cabinet before.

thanx 4 that i realize its a shit load of water 1100Liters of water=1000kg + the weight of the tank,hood ect.

its a big job and i want to be 100% right as i cant have a cabinet colapse with all that water in my lounge.

breeze blocks(thermalites) would be ideal for the weight as there light and strong too plus at about 50p each there not bad price. you could biul the main from them then trim it with wood which could be anything as it wont be holding anything just there to look nice

I made a cabinet for my 100g and i used 4 uprights (each one 18inches apart). My tank is 4 x 2 x 2. If your tank is deeper i would make the uprights closer

I also have a 180g 6 x 2 x 2.5. I used 3/4 inch ply sitting on 6 piles of bricks. Each pile consists of 2 bricks next to each other with the next layer rotated 90 degrees and so on. Hope this helps in giving you some ideas of how much support is needed

thanx guys i gave the breeze blocks sum thoughts but i dont think the wife is gonna like that idea so ill possibly hv to go the expensive route and go with sum hard wood or MDF.

The breeze blocks/bricks are only the start. After everything is settled you fill in around under the base with wood, MDF or chipboard to make it look nice so its looks like a cabinet
