TOPIC: oscar proof plants

oscar proof plants 1 year, 8 months ago #111161

Okay so after waking up to a completly ripped up plant i decided to go with a more durable plant. So far the oscar isnt able to take bites out of the amazon sword. I dont know what the plant he ripped up is called, so any sujestions on really durable plants for oscar, maybe thicker leaves or stuff like that.

PLASTIC!!!

Re: oscar proof plants 1 year, 8 months ago #111163

Plastic or silk, making sure to anchor them. All of my fake plants are anchored under large rocks or attached to something. Even then he still pulls pieces off of them occasionally, and he tries pretty much everyday. I can't imagine what having real plants would be like.

go to michaels, fill up a basket. go back and anchor the plants with some larger rocks. you will be smiling and your wallet will still have some money in it.

If you can make real plants work with your O... I say more power to you. go for it. take some nice pics and vids once you get your plants established and be proud.

well im narrowing down the plant list through the years. So far the amazon sword has lasted over six months, but the leaves are blak with all the crap it collects at least until new leaves grow. The amaon sword is supposed to suck up toxins in the water, the reason that has lasted so long is because it has really thick leaves and probly cant be bitten by the o.

The thing that I have learnt with plants is that they do work well converting nitrates in a healthy balanced functioning tank. If your tank is out of whack then they only add to the organic waste material that gives you ammonia and nitrates in the first place..sick plants make a sick tank sicker and they are not pretty when they are brown and black and chewed up and have been sucking on oscar wee for a while....that is my experience anyway...Shaz

maybe its black cause its dead lol oscar has chewed up the stem. But i plucked the leaf off. And i think my tank is pretty healthy but for some reason my ph droped alot in the last week idk why.
