Has anyone on here ever researched/implemented an easy alternate power source method for their aquarium in say, disaster scenarios?

I ask because since I do now live in Hurricane Alley, I won't be lucky every year. I am trying to think of a way to keep the filter and heaters going for 2-7 days if I were to lose power.

Any ideas?

36" T5 Light for shading, sunlight effects
300 Gallon rated Living Color wet-dry sump
3L of SeaChem Matrix + Bioballss, ceramic rings etc...
1xIvy for nitrate filtering

I have often thought about getting a generator as I live in an area that often loses power for several days due to excessive snow!

i managing a building and emergency power generator is always the chore
of my job.... thus, if you can afford a portable one, the best option...
have you ever check how much a 5KW genset cost in your area?

we have a portable generator (Honda 3000); we had some professional wiring done to the panel so we can plug it in in the event of power failure. It's not powerful enough to run the whole house, but it does keep the refrigerator, fish tank, furnace fan and a few lights running.

It's a cheaper alternative than having a full generator built-in; and you can take it with you for camping, etc if applicable.

but car battery needs a car engine running while genset could provide
you additional lighting in the house... just check the cost factor...

not realy a car battery will hold charge for a week or so with only filter and heater and air pump
it is like having centre consol light on in car and a jump pak would work also =]
