Namaste my friends, just had a quick question about the stand id like to put my new 55g on. The stand fits the depth of the tank perfectly but is off by 12" on the width, now my question is would the 6" of hangover on either side be detrimental to weight distribution? would putting a piece of wood that fit the tank over the stand help? any advice or commentary would be much appreciated, i just like the rod iron stand i have so much and would hate to replace it, but if i must i understand. Thanks again

This is not a good idea I suggest you get a stand with the right dimensions...

don't do it. water weighs a lot. the weight distribution will be off and you will get pressure points... possibly leading to your tank bursting through the seems.

Just go to petco... they have 55 gallon stands for 59 bucks. Solid metal frame. it worked for me. (I'm all for supporting local shops, but sometimes you gotta go with the MUCH better deal )

Do not leave any part of the base of your tank unsupported or you will end up with a cracked/broken tank. You can place a large piece board underneath the tank and place that on the stand but make sure it can take the weight.

My 6 x 2 x 32in tank is supported by inch thick ply. This rest on 6 brick supports
