the prob with keeping only 3 oscars is if you happen to get a mating pair the third one will be constantly harrassed perhaps to the point of injury or even death. if your tank is large enough you can go with 4-6 oscars (300 gal +)or just go with 2 oscars and some tankmates.

I have 4 oscars in a 6x2x2 all seem ok. 1 pair mated some months back... at that time the other pair stayed at other end of tank most of time.... But i think its hard to say how yours will get on as temperment is diff for every fish. only 1 of mine is aggresive, a girl-10inc tiger the partner is a 12inc tiger other 2 are white tigers 11 inc and 10 inc.... I took 2 of these fish on as a rescue but did not intend to have 4 as i also have two 8inc loach, and 1 parrot. But i could not watch the oscars suffer and went back for them. I do a 50gallon water change a wk so expect some work....I keep naggin wife for 300gallon

When you have 3 oscars 2 can sometimes buddy up and pick on the 3rd. If you keep 3 keep a close eye on things, you may have to rehome one.

My general rule is that if i have one fish picking on another i rehome the aggressive one however if you have 2 oscars that are picking on a 3rd i would rehome the 3rd oscar

Three oscars is usually a bad idea, you should have a backup plan incase you need to rehome one of them. Usually its the outcast that ends up being rehomed. But in all honesty I wouldn't do it.
