this is only a query i have and if it is easly done i would consider doing it in the future.

in my living room i have a 4ft tank but would really like a 6ft. what i would need to do is put the 6ft exactly were the 4ft tank is, how would i move my 4th wich currently has fish and is fully setup and put the 6ft tank in place?

i cant figure it out as i would need to empty the 4ft move it then put the 6ft there fill that up and cycle it but my fish would have no home?

any sigestions on how this could be done?

i seriusly have no room to keep 2 tanks. i live in a 2 bed flat with my pregnant wife and a 20 month old lol:laugh:

You will have to empty the 4 foot tank, unless you are able to lift half a ton:laugh:.

There isn't any other way around it, one has to make way for the other, you cannot lift the tank with all the water in so it would have to be emptied. However, with a few strong blokes, it could be quite an easy job. I would suggest you get a very large container, preferably something like a water butt. Empty as much of the the tank water into it as you can and then run your filters on the butt so they are not turned off for too long, the fish could get in there as well. Then move the 4 foot tank out of the way and replace it with a six-foot tank. you may have to take some of the substrates out, that will weigh quite a lot on its own because it will still be saturated. Pump the water back in using something like a power head, if need be, top a rest stop from the tap. Put the filters back on it and put the fish back in. The substrate can go back in after the fish have been put back in, they will be okay.

It's a very easy job, I did exactly the same thing when I replaced my 350 Trigon with the 125 gallon tank.

when i moved i placed my o's in a rubbermaid container emptied the tank(including substrate) moved the tank and then refilled it(with water the same temp as the rubbermaid container holding the oscars). then i replaced the substrate and placed the oscars back in. i also did water test for the next few days to make sure there was no ammonia spikes(which there werent). the whole process took about 3 hours(including the move) so for you can probably swap out a tank in maybe a third the time. it wasnt very difficult just make sure you plan it out so you have no surprises.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
