I've noticed this growth a couple of times on the glass - I wipe it off and it will be back in a week or two. Seems to move around....am I imagining this???

What is it and what do I need to do about it?? Thanks!

I've had a look around and I cannot find anything that resembles this. I can't make my mind up whether it's some kind of algea , or actually a fungal organism.

I shouldn't worry too much, I can't imagine it's going to cause any harm to your fish. I would suggest that you increase your tank maintenance for the next month, have a look at your feeding regime, make sure you're not putting too much food in and make sure my needs and food is left in the tank. See if that have an effect on this strange growth on whether it's actually stops it growing.

i have seen this on a site before. im 90% sure its a type of algea but cant remember anything about it sorry:(

Not sure what it is but glad i haven't got one. )))) I too think its some form of fungus or algea. dont think it will harm your fish, also dont know how to remove it. sorry. you could try a very fine filter media to catch any of the spores once you scub it off or a UV light?? but try the extra cleaning 1st as this is cost free.I will keep an eye out incase someone dose know, cos now I want to know what it is.)))

could this be Staghorn Algae?

Because I thought it "moved" when I had it a few weeks ago, I took a marker and drew a circle around it on the outside of the tank. Sure enough, 3 hrs. later it had moved 3/4" up the tank!!! Very strange! I will clean it and probably do an extra 25% water change.....

omg, it moves:(.. that would scare me a little lol...

BTW, I looked up Staghorn algae. I don't think it that. The growth in my tank is like Staghorn algae, but it is only flat against the tank wall in two spots about 2" in diameter, nowhere else. It's like sewing thread that has been glued in a pretty pattern to the side of the tank. It's not "floating" free like Staghorn algae does.
