It can be quite difficult sometimes. I know that not only us here on oscarfishlover, but every other fish forum say that 55 gallons is the absolute smallest tank for one Oscar. However, that doesn't mean keeping an Oscar in a smaller tank is going to give it some kind of death sentence. If you are to carry out several water changes a week, but some pretty good filtration on a 30 gallon tank then you probably could keep the water in an acceptable condition. There are probably people out there who do manage to do it, who are we to call them liars and say that cannot be done? However, I would certainly not condone this, I believe that big fish belong in big tanks. There's nothing more pitiful than seeing a large fish cramped up in a small tank. I am sure that some people have really good intentions, they are quite willing to carry out three water changes a week. But you could bet your bottom dollar that wouldn't last for too long. That is when water conditions would start going downhill. I wouldn't say that tank maintenance is an enjoyable task, the more work you give yourself, the more the chance you have of neglecting the fish. You in general, I am not actually pointing a finger at you.
We are only here to advise and help people, we are certainly not going to try and police the aquatic world, so if you do want to try and keep your fish in the 30 gallon tank, good luck to you, just keep an eye on that water.
