no you need a minimum of 55 gallons for one oscar i had mine in a 3 foot tank for about a month or so while getting my 75 ready they grow very very fast and can have alot of problems if grown up in a tank to small and your filtration should greater than tank volume for the best set up

a 190 liter tank works out to be about 40 imperial gallons and unfortunatly is a little to small to home an oscar for life. if you can get something around 250 liters this would be large enough for one oscar(no tankmates) for his entire life. of course the bigger the tank the less maintenance you will have to do.

Hey Jordan58 don't give your hopes up yet man! You can have an Oscar in that small tank for a while I mean a while only for like a month maybe two at most, but while that's going on get saving and start looking for a 55gallon tank they are usually cheap at some pet stores and or if you can or know someone build one yourself it may take some time and your patience but, with that goes on it will benefit you and your money just the making of it will be somewhat cheap but, buying or knowing someone who can get the glass will break a small dent in your wallet.Just try that and see what happens

i agree with them. oscar needs bigger tanks
and good filtration system. bigger tanks will
allows you to enjoy decor and less maintenance
frequency plus the comfort of your fish.

if all you put in your tank is one oscar then you probalby have about 6 months before he outgrows it. by that time you will need a larger tank and filtration to go with it.

you can keep an oscar in small tank for 6 to 8 months
or longer but you have to take extra effort in maintenace.
plus your fish will have stunt growth and very prone to
diseases. when you get attached to your fish, you will feel
sorry by not giving it good care. necromancer4 is right. you
can upgrade later on and trade-in your small tank.

The best advise I would give is get something smaller that will make a good tank mate for an oscar.something with a growth size of 6" say. When you get a larger tank and filter you will have a nice size tank mate to in with it.This way you will build knowledge in fish keeping and be ready for a larger fish. Its better that way than having problems from the start.

ok, so do you think i should put in a jack demsey or somthing along those lines
thanks

oh and by the way i can get a quit large(5"0 jack dempsey from my dealer for a very good price.and then ill put them in a 6ft by 2ft (around 125 gallons)in around a year.

or do you think it would be better if i got 1 oscar and 1 leopard pleco in the 3ft for aroud a year.

which 1 do you think, or make up your 1 and ill choose.

That would be a very good start and still a nice looking fish. By the time it reaches full size you may have a larger tank for a oscar. this start will also give you a good idea about water changing and testing and allow a little more room for mistakes. if you start with a oscar it will grow fast and require a fair amount of maintenance wks after you buy it cos your tank size is limited.

The reason oscars need large tanks apart from the hugh size (14") is they poo a dam lot and make a mess. This in a larger tank can take a wk or 2 before you need to change some water. In a small tank you will be changing water every other day. most people wouldnt want to keep this up so they soon fall behind. the quality of the water gets bad and the fish get sick.

If you make a good choice in a medium size fish it will not grow so big or as fast but will still need some maintenance but you will cope with this amount without spending every other day changing water. you will also end up with a great size tank mate. Choose a fish you like in colour and looks. dont rush but have a good look around. look for something with no marks or damage. And buy a test kit with the fish. this is the only way for you to tell if your water is in good condition and will be the most important bit of kit other than tank and filter. if you really want a oscar then a good understanding of testing water quality is a must.

2 fish in a 3ft tank would give you lots of problems over a yr. sorry
Have you had a tank before or is this your first.??
