I have a 90gal bow front tank and at the moment i have angels/gurami's/parrot fish and a 2 pleco's.
my setup is sand as substrate, i have some slate, large fake plants and wood in the tank, basically I want to get 2 oscars, what i need to know is, is sand ok for oscar's, is it a good idea to leave slate and wood in the tank for the oscar's and i know i have to get rid of the angels and guramis but is the parrot fsh and pleco's ok with oscar's.
im buying the oscar's as babies so they wont be big when i introduce them to the parrots and pleco.
any help will be great.

2 oscars a parrot and 2 plec's may make you a little overstocked and this will depend mainly on the type of plec you have. You will need to try to find out as some can grow very large. If they are small plec's then yes all will be fine with the setup you have. If the slate is large all the better as oscars will move very large rocks when full grown. my parrot gets on well as do the plec. they are both well suited size wise and temperament. I would say dont get any other fish than you have listed or maintenance will be hard work.sand is great, with the setup you have you will find you have a bit more maintenance with oscars but it shouldnt be a silly amount unless your plec's are large. What size are they? what filter do you have.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.

one of the plecos is full grown, but the other one is fairly young and still has some growing, not sure what ones they are, but their black. the parrots aint full grown either, and its 2 parrots i have.
but like i said, im introducing the oscars as young so they wont be to big to cause any harm will they?
im using a eheim 2213.

if it were me i would go for just the one oscar in a 90g with that many tankmates and i would get one about 3"-4" to prevent conflict with the parrots as parrots can,and will be very agressive and teritorial especially in this case as its their tank and the O will be the new adittion , also by the summer the O will be a substancial size emmiting lots of waste if you get an O at the size i mentioned above it will stop unnecessary beatings from the pair of parrots who will work as a team on the O... i have experienced this very problem many times and one of my tanks, with one O and 3 tankmates is a 90gal and i have to run a fluval 405 two 1000 l/ph powerheads and a tetratec 1000 l/ph internal and a 30% water change weekly in order to keep the water parameters any whare near safe and normal....just my opinion tho

Oscars produce a lot of waste. You must have noticed that they produce very large turds. But that's only the half of it, they also produce ammonia when they breathe and also through their urine. That will be quite a lot of ammonia. So if you haven't got a large enough tank with enough water, you will have ammonia presence in the tank water which is extremely dangerous for fish.

I've never owned oscars so i didnt know that, but thanks, i learn something new every day.
so are they really that hard to look after?
like i said in an earlier post, i have an eheim 2213 but im thinking about getting a fluval 3 as well, just to help with the filtering, or would that not be advised?

they are as easy as any other fish to care for ,,probably easier than most as given water quality and diet is good they will thrive in your aquarium i personaly beleive you can never overfilter a tank of any species but most of us on here will be running 2 external filters with double the litreage of the tank each filter for a tank your size you would fare much better to get an external canister filter with a minimum capacity of AT LEAST 1000 lph in adition to your eheim and you would still need a weekly top up with fresh water to stay on top of things .....butits worth it to own an oscar ..i have kept fish for many years,my father has kept fish, and even as a small child my earliest memories of my grandparents house whare i grew up are of fishtanks in every available space so as you can imagine i have owned or had dealings with lots of species.. but never have i come across such an amazing one as the oscar they realy do have a personality !!!!!like a dog or a cat they almost come to call beg for food follow you up and down the tank as you walk by they have funny little habits and are more like dogs or cats than fish and of course then theres their beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GET AN OSCAR YOU WONT LOOK BACK...hope this helps

your tank is barely big enough for what you have now(assuming your plecos are sailfins). if you add an oscar to the mix i would strongly suggest a fluval 405 along with your eheim to ensure enough filtration for life.

personally i would consider rehome one of the plecs(again assuming their sailfins) and this should lighten the bio load enough for adding an oscar.

as long as your water is good and you feed an balanced diet with a quality pellet as a staple and your have enough fitration oscars are easy to care for. they do produce a lot of waste but thats what all the filtration is for.

im sure if you do decide to get ano oscar you wont be disapointed.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i just want to share my 2 cents ideas. i have 2 oscars' full grown
and an angel fish, plus two giant pangasius. filtration needs to be
enough to cope the waste. and you've got to do a lot of water change
(unless you are in heavy hydroponics set up). angel fish do well with
oscar.

angle fish do well with oscars? thats the first time i have heard that.
is it true?
i thought oscars would kill the angels once they were big enough.
