TOPIC: New Juwel Rio 400 - all set up and running fine

New Juwel Rio 400 - all set up and running fine 3 years, 4 months ago #19698

We finally moved Homer over to a new tank - and upgraded our old Juwel Reckford 120 tank to what feels like a *massively* bigger Juwel Rio 400. (We bought online through TheAquariumShop.com - from whom we had fantastic service and advice, free delivery at a date/time we chose - and at almost £200 cheaper than our local shops).

We're running both the Juwel's own inbuilt filter and a Fluval 405 external filter. Before setting up the new tank, we ran the Fluval in the old tank for 4 weeks or so to seed the filter - so it can take the task of filtering whilst the Juwel's filter seeds. So far, we've not had any trouble - but then we do only have a dozen small fish at the moment, so the bio-load is very small.

The mangrove roots came from The Range - they're resin, and were incredibly cheap!!

I know that we've got a lot of plants - and there's a chance that Homer will just dig them all up as he gets older; but they're all fairly tough, and so far he's not shown much inclination to dig or pull plants about, so we're keeping our fingers crossed )

sounds good, I'm glad you have got an external filter. I used to have a Jewel 350 and even though the internal filtration is quite beefy, and external filter is highly advisable. Keep an eye on your internal filtration, the sponges can become clogged with debris from the tank.

anyway, when you got some photos, we'd love to see the setup
