We finally moved Homer over to a new tank - and upgraded our old Juwel Reckford 120 tank to what feels like a *massively* bigger Juwel Rio 400. (We bought online through TheAquariumShop.com - from whom we had fantastic service and advice, free delivery at a date/time we chose - and at almost £200 cheaper than our local shops).
We're running both the Juwel's own inbuilt filter and a Fluval 405 external filter. Before setting up the new tank, we ran the Fluval in the old tank for 4 weeks or so to seed the filter - so it can take the task of filtering whilst the Juwel's filter seeds. So far, we've not had any trouble - but then we do only have a dozen small fish at the moment, so the bio-load is very small.
The mangrove roots came from The Range - they're resin, and were incredibly cheap!!
I know that we've got a lot of plants - and there's a chance that Homer will just dig them all up as he gets older; but they're all fairly tough, and so far he's not shown much inclination to dig or pull plants about, so we're keeping our fingers crossed
