basically, strong current or water agitation is for
oxygenation. the more surface agitation, the more
oxygen dissolve in water. oscar will thrive in any
water current as long as it is in good condition,
zero ammonia & nitrite, 10-20 nitrates; 7.0 pH.

i use 2 powerheads(pumps about 264g/hour each) in my 132 gallon tank. there's no problem but my oscars are about 9 inches.

Oscars are river fish so any movement in an oscar aquarium is a good thing. for one it will move all the crap so filter will pick it up, it will keep the temp more consistent throughout the tank with no high low spots.(most Oscar tanks are large) It will help remove carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. A good balanced flow is whats needed. don't go over the top as very strong flow can damage fins when the fish swim side on to it. Most people will not get this sort of flow anyway.
