TOPIC: Help! Questions about driftwood!

Help! Questions about driftwood! 3 years, 4 months ago #21251

Hello All!

I have an 80 gallon tank. I have no idea what to put in there for my Oscars. I am looking at a piece of driftwood from online. Here is the link.

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&a...mp;item=250362345121

Can anyone tell me if it is safe or what I would have to do to make it safe? Should I even attempt at all.

I want some decorations that look more natural and earth tones.. I want my Oscars to be happy!

Any suggestions? Pictures?

Thanks,
Allyson

hi!

i have mangrove roots and red moor wood in my tanks. roots might color the water (red/brown). (especially mangrove roots). personally i don't mind.
the oscars seems to like to swim over, under and "through" them.
personally i think roots "is a must" in a oscar tank.

(i have red moor wood in this tank)

The page you have put a link to isnt working. As for drift wood, as long as you use proper wood from a dealer you should have no problems. it may colour your water a brown tint but this will fade after a few wks and your water will become clear. its harmless to fish. if on the other hand you try to produce your own things become a little more of a problem.

i also use red moor roots but have used MOPANI WOOD for years ....i have to agree with marcus tho you must buy from a pet store and try to BOIL the wood for an hour and soak for a week or so before putting it in your tank

i bought some mopani wood and put it in my 60 gallon. and like the others said it will turn the water brown. even after i boiled it 6 times over 6 hour period, it still turned the water brown. kind of frustrating
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

If you dont like the brown water, put wood in large bucket or empty tank, bin etc. fill with water and change water daily. when colour stops and you get clear water ( about wk or 2) put it back in your tank.
