Does anyone use infrared cameras to view their fish in the dark. The reason i ask is that on more than one occasion my oscars have woke me up in the middle of the night. It sounds like someone did a cannonball into my 180 gal.

I did have a web cam on my 300 gallon tank, but not at night. To be quite honest, I'm really not sure how much you would see if the tank lights are out. However, it would be interesting because believe it or not, a lot of people think that fish don't sleep because they don't close their eyes.

Have you got a pleco?

how big is your oscar?
for two years now, i don't have such experience
and it never cross my mind to watch my oscar at
night thru infra red.

oscar splashing at night is a sign of trouble!
better check it out. something must be bothering
them, may be a pleco as OFL had ask, or anything
that your o want to shake off.

Well one evening i was able to see one of my tiger oscars do about four complete full speed laps around the tank, then he saw me and stopped, I had a light on down the hall which gave just enough light to see this

not only stirring. big pleco could even damage your
sleeping oscar. once that sharp sucker mouth anchored
in oscar's soft side of the body, they can draw out the
intestine of their victim.

if you have that pleco specie that grow more than 12",
try to feel those razor sharp teeth in their sucker
mouth. you can imagine what will happen to your o
once plec was able to grab its side.

we already have incident like that wherin plec was
seen enjoying the end of the oscar's intestine in the
morning.

You should really consider rehoming the Pleco. Oscars are active by day, Pleco's are active by night.

Eartheaters are particularly good at sifting through the sand and picking up little bits that they find, I've got three Juripari, they are absolutely fantastic little fish, really docile and not aggressive in the least. However, I'm not in favour of encouraging people to buy fish to keep the tank clean, maintaining your tank does that job. If you think about it, at some stage there's going to be waste that nobody eats. Pleco for instance leave one hell of a mess, I don't know any fish that feast on the amount of crap they leave behind.

as OFL had said, happy fish keeping need personal attention.
and cleaning is part of it. I totally agree with OFL that you
can not clean the tank by putting something that do mess the area
too.

in my case, my set up to the tricks. i place the suction line of
my pump at one end, the discharge point at the other end, creating
one directional water current inside the tank. in this concept, all
dirt are driven by the current toward suction, sucked and filtered,
processed by good bacteria, and return the water clean and clear.
