Well after 6 months of being together Big ben and alba are going after each other.Lip locking, chasing,and pushing nothing serious, But that lip locking looks vilent, got a little concernd at first but i had to let it go on. Ben looks a little stressed.. Does anyone know which is the aggressoir male or female.. They are peacful tonight so far..

6 months and how big they are? liplocking is normal
behavior of oscar particularly during maturity; either
trying to establish supremacy or courting. if they happen
to be both male, you are in trouble. if they happen to be
both female, they will will not hurt themselves seriously.
if you are lucky to have pair, then it will stop once the
lady accepted the courting.

just keep an eye on both of them, if needed, try the magic
bag of biggamehunter for the aggressive one.

How old are your Oscars?

They do usually display aggressive-like behaviour when about to mate, including lip-locking. However most times superficial bruises are as far as it goes, therefore the need to keep their tank with optimal filtration so the risk for opportunistic infections remains low.

Watch carefully and wait. A flat or slate rock is what usually they are looking for prior to laying eggs so if your tank doesn't have one (better two so they can choose) try to provide it, otherwise they might end up digging the substrate until they leave an area of the bottom glass uncovered.

My first pair (female passed away last Saturday, a new 7" yet unsexed sub-adult is "auditioning" in the tank) had a gentle approach the first (and only) time they managed to hatch fry.

When Oscar get serious about being aggressive things go wrong big time, not like you are describing. I believe you are witnessing mating ritual. They, as other cichlids (e.g. Heros Severum) do "rehearse" sometimes months before actually getting it done and that includes moving things around, digging, cleaning a rock besides what you are describing.

In my original pair the first fish acting-out was the female, but that didn't last long. She was a bit larger than the male but not that much. After a while it was the male who did the chasing.

I should not post after i've been drinking,, sorry i beleave i have posted in the wrong forum. I have had both together for 6 months they between 10-12 inches.They have chilled out the last 24hrs no damage to each other,Ben still looking a little stressed but all is good.I'm hoping for a mating pair or two female,dont know what i would do if they are both males.(maybe buy another tank.. )Pepe soory about the lose of your female.. I do have a big flat rock in the tank just in case they are a mating pair. Should i put some gravel on the rock so they can clear it off ??
