TOPIC: 75 gallon good for 1 Oscar??

75 gallon good for 1 Oscar?? 3 years, 1 month ago #29738

I have a 75 gallon cycling, (3rd week). When it's ready I plan to put one Oscar and one Satanoperca Jurupari in there. I just wanted to know if that size tank is suitable for just these 2 fish for their lifetime. I have 4 other tanks so I'm an experienced fishkeeper, but I have never kept an Oscar. Any responses would be appreciated. Thanx.

just about ...i say if you have adequate filtration and keep you nitrates at an acceptable level you can do it.......also you are an experienced fishkeeper ,this fact will make a huge difference to your happy oscar keeping as you will already know the important stuff with the water etc...........oh and welcome to the site

Like BGH said, 75 gallon will be ok, as long as you keep you water levels good, what filter/s are you going to be using?
2 Tiger Oscars, 1 Lutino Oscar, 1 Jack Dempsey, 3 Clown Loaches, 1 Blue Phantom Pleco.

I'm using 2 Aquaclear 110/500gph. I think that should be sufficient, if not overkill!!

you will be surprised how fast your nitrate will hit high levels in a 75!!!!!!! even with massive filtration ....oscars produce a massive amount of ammo!!!! like no other fish in my opinion ...........but your filter should be ok do you mean 500 gallons per hour or litres ?????????

Make sure you have something on top so that the oscar doesn't jump out. I've lost two one of which I was really attached to. They love to jump!!!!mine were approximately 6". My two live in a 165 gal so I'm very anxious to see how big they are going to get. Good Luck.
