I've been on a roll with cheap stuff lately!

Got another 6 x 2 x 2 aquarium for $100 not too long ago - it needs resealing but for the price I just couldn't say no... AND, today I picked up not one, but 2 Fluval FX5s for $400, with a full set of media. Second-hand, but as-new condition. Fluval FX5s go for >$500 new in Aus, so it's a hell of a bargain.

:woohoo:

We're nearing the end of our list of fish things we need (for now). All that's left is to get some sponge filters set up and some battery powered air pumps as an emergency backup. In your opinions, is it worth buying new sponge filters or DIYing them? I have no experience with them whatsoever so any info about how they work etc would be good too.

Great finds! I am thinking about making some DYI sponge filters, bought some of the materials for it already. Seems like a fun weekend project, if you have a little bit of time. Lots of Youtube vids on how to. Advantage of DYI is you can make them pretty much any size and shape you like.

it's very easy to make DIY spongefilters, if you want an odd shape or size i'd say go DIY, otherwise i would sugest get them off ebay or amazon.
