Any have opinions on gravel. I currently have pfs in my tanks and wanted to go with black for the new tank I tried this national geographic mini gravel and its garbage small little particulates are mixed in with the gravel and wont do for the new tank. Pfs is great but wanted to go with something dark for the new tank and not have to worry about the filters or python sucking up the sand. I figured a light layer of black gravel would go good with the black back round and whitish rocks and wood.

I switched a few tanks to the larger, rounder river pebbles, solely for ease of cleaning. Never seen any in dark colors though.

I bought black sand. It cost me more, but I'm in love

Get black blasting sand, Big Ken uses it in one of his tanks looks great. I'm not sure what grit size he uses.

If you wanted to stick with sand try Tahitian moon sand. It's black.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

Tahitian moon sand is much finer and lighter than PFS.

i have PFS in all my tanks ~ it's not too bad to clean ..but getting bored of it.. planning to get river rocks from lowes -- Tahitian moon sand is expensive for the volume you need.

Wish I would of went with the river rock also.. I think larger coarse black sand would look pretty cool in your tank, then maybe spread a little white gravel on the top of it?

Love the look of the black sand but as far as sand goes nothing im aware of is heavier thwn the pfs (currently using) pfs has its negatives like one slip of the python and now you have a toilet bowl full of sand... love the look of Tahitian moon sand but again much lighter than pfs...I guess a thin layer if black gravel is my only option.
As far as the blasting sand how does that compare to pfs ?
