So waiting for lfs to call me back was supposed to deliver the new tank today. But was thinking about getting a pleco that would actually eat algea and was primarily a vegetarian. If I went this route I wouldn't add the loaches to the new tank I would either rehome the one I have or put it in the 55gal with some pals. I would rather go this route wasn't looking forward to having a bunch of loaches plus the existing fish.

P.s. rhis was my sons idea he wants a pleco so made him choose between them and the loaches

All my plecs are lousy housekeepers. I guess they do take down some algae, but the crap they put out negates that imo. Get one if you like them, but be prepared to up your w/c and vacs. Avoid the Gibbiceps(Sailfin), what pigs they are!

Yes, I was in a similar boat. My son love's the Pleco so there is no getting rid of it. Mine does a bit of algae but really you have to think of them as a special fish with special food needs rather than as a cleaner. They are a mess! As Suprd71 says. Driftwood is a good thing to have with them as they like to munch on it as well as hide behind it. Mine kept attaching Poseidon for a while, but now my O keeps the "attacks" (attempts to get body slime) to a minimum.

BN plecs can also be gobbled up by decent sized Oscars. Get one full grown if you can, Capone may try it, but give up if he cant get it right away.

In my own experiences, I hate Pleco's! Messy messy suckers...Always look like "spaghetti poo" wrapped around the tank.
