The intesity of the lighting depends on the type of plants you want to grow. In general, fluorescent lighting is a good source. Here is a great article by Big-Ken with a chart on lighting:

What size tank is it for and what kind of light(s) does it have?

Depends on the plant. Different plants have different lighting needs. The fluorescent hood included with your aquarium would probably only work with "low-light" plants.

A high wattage CFL bulb in a clamp lamp can honestly grow most plants. Those things are brighter than people give them credit for, and very cheap! I run standard CFL bulbs in clamp lamps over all of my freshwater aquariums. I get great plant growth. The spotlight effect looks great, and actually gives you diversity in brightness levels, accommodating a larger range of live plants.

The stock fluorescent light will only grow java fern and java moss and maybe keep a sword alive, if your serious about wanting plants i would recommend at least a dual t5 light. Ditch the stock hood and get a set glass lids and a decent light and it will get you started, if you would like some help picking out a light let me know
