TOPIC: Are long thin tanks better than square tanks?

Are long thin tanks better than square tanks? 4 years, 9 months ago #3723

Hi All

I have two oscars, a 3 inch albino tiger and 2.5 inch tiger. I currently have them in a 50 gallon tank, but I am upgrading the tank this week. I have a choice between two tanks, one is almost holding 100 gallons, and the other is 4' long (also holding 100 gallons). Is the long tank better? I want them to be comfortable!

Personally I would go for the longer tank. It gives the Oscar the chance to move from side to side which they do a lot. If you're keeping angelfish, you would want a tank that was higher rather than longer.

Agreed. Plus, shorter tanks are easier to work on.
Keeping fish is only as hard as you choose to make it.

Assuming both tanks both tanks have the depth(top to bottom) it doesnt really make any difference which tank you choose as they will both have the same surface area. A longer thinner tank has a bigger viewing area, However a tank that is bigger front to back allows larger pieces of rock and wood etc to be put in.
