I bought this 55 gallon tank from someone in some local classifieds today and didn't notice this crack until I had cleaned it and filled it halfway with water. Its just in the plastic piece pictured. The glass is all fine and its not leaking at about half fullness. Should I stop and be concerned? I don't know how much of a role the plastic "frame" plays into the tanks integrity and I certainly don't want to wake up one morning with 55 gallons of water running into my downstairs neighbors bedroom lol.

If anyone has any experience or advice on this it would be most helpful. I tried to take a picture of the crack. I hope its good enough.

Thanks

i really dont think it's going to be or create a problem but if your concerned or want to put yourself at ease just leave it half filled for a few days and check for leaks

You caould also, fill the crack with silicone... Just to hold the two pieces together... I am sure it won't be a problem as I have a tank with the same crack, it has been up and running full for years... Good luck.

i personaly beleive the plastic edging strips are purely cosmetic and serve no purpose whatsoever to the tank holding water ........all glass tanks are bonded in exactly the same way regardless of their external finishing facia..........but you may be better removing it completely or sticking it back in place as it may cause an uneven surface for the tank base causing a twist in the tank and uneven pressures on the tank joints .......
