Hey can anyone give me some advice?? I have my wee oscar in a small tank with gravel and have a very large tank ready for when he gets bigger. I have heard that sand is easier to clean. Sand or gravel??

Cheers

That question all comes down to personal opinion! Some prefer sand and others prefer Gravel!

Gravel for me with a reverse undergravel filter. You put in a UGF but instead of using an air stone you use the outlet from a canister filter to push water down the tube of the UGF. You will also need a gravel tidy as oscars dig and will render the UGF useless. With this set up you dont have to clean the gravel, just take the big waste out

Gravel IMO. Easier to clean, etc. I only use sand when it's required, e.g. with my predatory catfish...

Thanks Delboybully! I will look out all the kit for my big tank. This fishy business is all new to me.

What makes you say you can only use gravel with a canister? Many people run canisters with sand.

Delboy is talking about an under gravel filter. These types of filters do not really work very well with sand because they get clogged up very easily.
