hi all

i have deliberated keeping an oscar for along time now and have finally decided to get one. i have a 4ft tank (55 gallon/4ftx18x18inches) that i hope to soon be the home to 1 oscar and maybe some sort of pleco or something (not to picky don't mind if i can't get one cause of space ).
right now the tank is sitting empty in my room, i have everything except the filter so i will be getting one in the next few weeks (eihem classic 2217 might add another one if needed). my original plan was to keep discus in a heavily planted tank but the 50% water change every 2 days scared me off a bit . i did get some stuff for the old plan like lights (8x54w T5 ) so i may sell some of that off and get other things .

anyways i will post some pics up when i get it started.

thanks

Nice!
We'll be waiting for pictures of your progress, we just love those!
Be sure to take your time to properly cycle the tank!
Good luck!

thanks for the quick reply

don't worry i will most defiantly cycle the tank properly i might fill it up now and just put in a power head filter (1600l/hr been running on another tank for a few months) and leave it for a few weeks and see what happens.

If that tank is cycled, you can just switch the filter to the other tank and you'll be okay.
Just keep the bioload at the same level.
I switched my 600l filter from my 18Gl to my 90Gl some time ago, and I switched the fish that same day!
I added a HOB filter for mechanical filtration.
The tank is extremely clear and the fish seem to like it.

Take some of the media from the other tank and put it in the new filter and bingo your tank will be cycled as long as you dont put a big oscar in

I had some discus and i had to do 2 25% waters changes every week without fail. to ge the water i had to run my tap water through a RO machine which would take 2 days to get enough for a water change. A real pain but worth it. When i reset the tank back up I will be getting some more discus
I can't get no sleep
