Hi. Im upgrading from a 55 gal to a 120 gal for two oscars(both about 6 inches) and one red tail shark(about 4 inches). Heres what ive done.

-just filled up new 120 with water this morning
-added dechlorinater
-1 plastic plant from old tank
-small pourous rock from old tank
-about 12 gallons of water from old tank
-about 30 percent of the gravel from old tank
-Top Fin brand bacteria booster for new tanks
-20 small goldfish to hopefully speed up nitrogen cycle(their all about an inch)
-Aquaclear 110 from old tank
-have another aquaclear 100 on old tank that I will add to new tank once cycled
-i plan on doing about a 20 percent water change on old tank every few days and adding that too.
-in the filter that i moved: foam block was changed 17 days ago and has been running in old tank since then, biological layer is pretty old and well seasoned, and I put a new charcoal pouch in today to hopefully help with clarity
-three days ago, i poured a bunch of biological filter media into some pantyhose and dropped in old tank. How long should I wait before moving that? Is there enough bacteria on it yet? What else can I put in there to speed things along? The sooner new tank is cycled, the sooner I can sell old one.

Oh yeah, new tank sits on home made stand(well built and quite good looking might I add). Its also in a trailer house. Floor joists were reinforced with a layer of sand, concrete pads, stacked concrete cinder blocks, 2x4's and shims(in that order from ground up). Last I checked, the house hasn't shifted a millimeter.

Any other suggestions or criticisms? I'll post pics as soon as old fish are in new tank. Thanks

If you move both your filters to the new tank, you will be ready to go... They are holding all your beneficial bacteria!

Please post pics!!!

got any pics?
If u keep some of your old water all you need to do is jut move your old filter to the new tank and you should be ready to go, assuming the old tank is cycled properly......thats how i did it with no problems.

i have to agree with above.... if you use as much water as you can from your old tank you can move your filters over to the new tank and you should be good to go

test the water in your old tank. If the readings are right, you can move the filter straight from your old tank to the new one, along with the fish.
then just test the water everyday or two for a week to make sure all is well

this is what i did when i set my 120 up about 1.5 months ago, and i haven't had any problems
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

the fastest way without waiting...

or if your new tank is filled with fresh water, remove the equivalent
water of the old tank, then transfer everything and you will be fine.
