i was hit by green algae and i found out that increasing the lateral volume of
filter media is not enough to keep it under check. in almost 21 days, my tank
remains green. then i realized i haven't tried to cut off the light. so three
days ago, i had to cover the entire tank, clean the filter and observed.
good heaven, it works perfectly:
the covering;

Nice work!
I like it when I can actually see my fish through the water.
Put an extra dimension to fishkeeping!

The algae is definately better. But you cant keep covering over your tank to stop algae growing. Lets hope is doesnt come back

Don't think a big plec would keep it in check?

I know Paul in not a big plecofan, actually he kinda hates them...
And no, a pleco will scrape algae of the surface and will filter some algae out of the water, but would not have helped in this situation.

thanks Noddy...for backing me up

yes, Noddy knows i hate plecs and they can not help me in this
situation. the water itself became green, not the glass....

@Delboybully, once the water had been stabilized, green algae
wont come back anymore. i had removed the cover already and this
is the latest footage:

A plec wouldnt eat green algae in the water. Maybe a smaller vegetarion relative of the basking shark would do the trick

the water is no longer green...what you can see now is the background.

actually, i used to have plecs before but from the time it becomes a menace
in our local fresh water system, i started hating them. see this:

lol hey a paddle fish would do the trick. they are the only species of large fish that is a filter feeder living solely on zooplankton in north america. infact, i cant think of any other freshwater fish that does this. it does exactly what a basking shark does
