Hello , i've to small Oscar's currently in a 27.75 (uk) gallon tank .Ive notcied for a while now that the bigger of the two is bullying the other ( been going on for about 2 months) by chasing, facing each other and moving back n forth, lip locking ect. there is small scratches on the smaller O , i have placed a hiding object in the tank which he does use. but he uses it constantly! until food arrives. My issue is this. although this tank is too small for 2 Oscar's 27 gallon, i do have another which is a slightly larger tank at 31.45 gallons, is it worth swapping the tanks?? just for that extra ammount of volume? i'd rather not set up 2 tanks as it can be costly, and also space comes into it.Or search for a larger tank maybe?

Kind regards

Leeroy

okay, I don't think you're going to like what I'm going to say, but it needs to be said. Neither of the tanks you have mentioned anywhere near big enough for an Oscar, let alone two Oscars. The only advice I can give you is to think about upgrading as soon as possible, we can't possibly justify keeping two Oscars in either of the things you have mentioned, very sorry about that.

However, if you continue to keep them, the aggression could get much worse, more worryingly your water conditions will suffer as well because the tanks are not just not big enough to maintain two adult Oscars. Please look around for a tank big enough for one Oscar, that would be a absolute minimum of 55 gallons, or a tank of 100 gallons + if you want to keep two Oscars.

Yes i am aware that an Oscar requires at least a mininum of 55 gallons, these are only 2 inches in size. hense them being in a small tank for now. I am looking for a larger tank as we speak. All i wanted to know was in the meantime would a extra 4 gallons in volume make any difference?

Any additional water is a benefit, however 4 gallons is hardly anything, that is barely enough to maintain 3 or 4 tetras.

i agree with ofl on this one. an extra 4 gallons will make little difference in the big picture. imho the best course of action for you would be to cycle and make ready the next tank you plan on housing your oscars in.
