Brooksie here again... have I mentioned I love this site? I have two 3" baby Oscars that I am going to need to move soon.

Anyway, I am preparing for the big tank - going to 100 gal tank. I'm looking for advice on what to use for filters. I have read tons and tons of things but need to know from those who actually use the stuff.

Undergravel?
Hanging?
Canister?

I'm looking for something that is fairly quite and easy to use. I'll take any advice - please let me know exactly what (i.e. name and model) so that I can look it up. I have learned a valuable lesson.. those cute boys and girls that work at the pet stores are there to collect a check and don't have a clue what they are talking about!

Thank you in advance.....

P.S. Has anyone ever started their own feeder tank?
Just call me Brooksie!!

Yes, it's brilliant isn't it?

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail but if I was in your position I would go for a couple of canister filters. It really depends on what your budget is. Take a look at Fluvel, Eheim and maybe Rena, they all manufactured very good canister filters, some are quite reasonably priced, some are very expensive, you should find what you are looking for there.

I have only ever used eheim myself and they are very quiet, you don't even know they are running half the time
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

i definitely concur with the boss.... i can only add one thing...if you consider
an FX5 canister type, please consider size for space location...but very effective
filtering system.

So far helpful but if I run a canister do I need to do undergravel and/or hanging as well?

different type depend on your preference. some people have two system running
in split size purposely to have back up in case one bugged down. thus it is purely
your call to have two different type or two identical unit of same size.

when running a canister you might look into an hob for extra mechanical fitration but i think an undergravel would not be necessary due to the large area for bio media in the canister.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

at some point, there are people who loves the ugf liquefy effect when they do the
reverse flow set up. other than that, it is not needed as cris is saying...

i almost put a hob filter on my big tank, but decided against it because of the additional room needed behind the tank. my girlfriend was already ticked off because the tank was so wide, i needed every inch i could get
Please, for my sake, change your oil!
