Hey guys,
I recently rescued two oscars from a friend that was housing them in a FIVE GALLON unit!!!!! I have had fish in th past but gave them up a few years ago due to the face that I am at college. Upon taking these fish a setup my old unit, a 36 gallon bow front and allowed it cycle. I am running two HOB style filters that are desgined for 40-60 gallon tanks...I have also purchased a Fluval 205 canister style filter and have it running.. A sponge filter is also being used, mainly to increase water flow...I have three airstones operating on two large air pumps. The water is crystal clear a everything checks out fine. The fish have been in it for clos to five months now and both are about 9 inches long. I know that this tank is undersized for these fish, however it does improve on what they had before i took them in. I perform a weekly 25% water change and feed them a well rounded diet...At this time i cannot upgrade to a larger tank, the main reason being that i am broke and have no money to invest in one,the other reason being that I have limited space in my apartment..However is i could get my hands on a larger setup for a low price i would def do it for the fish sake. Is there anything else I can do to make these guys comfortable and insure that they are healthy and living well, besides having to give them up myself?
