Hey guys,
I recently rescued two oscars from a friend that was housing them in a FIVE GALLON unit!!!!! I have had fish in th past but gave them up a few years ago due to the face that I am at college. Upon taking these fish a setup my old unit, a 36 gallon bow front and allowed it cycle. I am running two HOB style filters that are desgined for 40-60 gallon tanks...I have also purchased a Fluval 205 canister style filter and have it running.. A sponge filter is also being used, mainly to increase water flow...I have three airstones operating on two large air pumps. The water is crystal clear a everything checks out fine. The fish have been in it for clos to five months now and both are about 9 inches long. I know that this tank is undersized for these fish, however it does improve on what they had before i took them in. I perform a weekly 25% water change and feed them a well rounded diet...At this time i cannot upgrade to a larger tank, the main reason being that i am broke and have no money to invest in one,the other reason being that I have limited space in my apartment..However is i could get my hands on a larger setup for a low price i would def do it for the fish sake. Is there anything else I can do to make these guys comfortable and insure that they are healthy and living well, besides having to give them up myself?

Try your local classifieds like kijiji. I was able to find a 100gallon with a stand for $170

I hear the folks here talk about the craigs list all the time.
It's supposed to be very good.
I check all dutch secondhand sites every now and then.
My other favorite site, monsterfishkeepers.com has a large buy/sell/ swap section that may be helpfull as well.

Just keep checking, free tanks don't show up every day, but if they do you wanna be the first to respond!
Wish you some more goodluck.
