It is extremely easy to work out how many gallons an aquarium holds if you know how many litres it is. If you have a commercially purchased aquarium they often have a number after the name, i.e. Jewel Rio 300. Normally the 300 relates to how many litres the tank holds. So if you know how many litres your tank holds, how do you work out how many gallons it holds? Easy, if you are in the UK there are approximately 4.5 L of water to 1 UK gallon. So all you do is divide 300 x 4.54 and you will then know how many gallons your tank holds, in this case 66 gallons. If you're in the USA then you divide 300 x 3.78 and you end up with 79 gallons.
So what if you want to work out how many litres your tank holds, easy again, this time you multiply how many gallons your tank holds, by 1 L of water. 66 x 4.54 equals 300, or thereabouts. .
The same thing goes with working out measurements. Many tank calculator programs was require you entering a measurement in inches. However you may only know your tank size in centimetres. So what is 92 cm in inches? There is approximately 2 1/2 cm to an inch.
