Dolphin Canister tank C-1600 setup 2 years, 4 months ago #71173

Hello I am Graham from Phuket, Thailand. I have two Oscars and a red belly piranha and three small sucker fish in a big tank.
Today I bought a Dolphin C-1600 tank and I cant find out how to setup the top water jets for maximum effect? Also how does one adjust the flow rate for in and out ? These chaps who make the thing presumes everybody already knows this stuff?
I don't and am a new person to Oscar keeping.
I have another question, why is my Piranha outgrowing my two Oscars, they are all the same age?
Your help is need soonest please ?
Be well
Graham

I am afraid I'm not really familiar with your tank/filter. Have you got any information that you come post about it.

How big is your tank? How big are your fish? What type of Pirahna is it?

Cap did you cycle the tank before putting the fish in?

Finally, have you tested your water?

Greetings again folks.
Let me start again with my query.

My tank is 24 L x 12 W x 17 H. My water and tank has cycled for over three months now. My Ph reading is 7.1 and the Nitrite reading is just above 0.10.

Now the new filter make is a Dolphin C-1600 Canister filter.( You can google this filter )? It has a suction out pipe for cleaning the tank through a plastic filter cap, then the water goes through all the filtration in the unit and gets sent back to the tank. Now the return water gets fed into the tank via a top water pipe with holes in it. Now what i want to know is how should these holes be angled in the water, too feed back in at an angle of 30 deg or straight down the back or front panel of the tank? Also do the Oscars like a strong set of currents in their tank, or gentle currents?

My Oscars measure about five inches tip of tail to mouth and the Piranah measures 7 inches tip of tail to mouth.

Hope this helps to create a better picture, If not I can try to send some photos a bit later on in the day?

Be well all of you.
Graham

assuming your tank measurements are in inches that works out to be only 20 us gallon.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but that tank is not even larger enough for one oscar let alone two. what we recommend is a MINIMUM of 55 us gallons for one oscar. a 75 is the recommend size and this is without tankmates. for 1 oscars and larger tankmates you will need to look into something in the 100+ us gallon range and with that you will need adequate filtration for the tank.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

OOOPsy my tank measure ments are 2,4 L meters X 1,2 W meters and 1,7 H meters. Giving a tank volume of US Gallons ????

It is a big tank ok ? My fish look like dots in it at the moment, Later they should be more visible in it when they reach adult hood.

Sorry for the confusion. I am trying out this filter and if it works well I will put in another same system. But I want to know what the water return jet setting should be facing the back of the tank please?

Thanks for the answers so far.

Cheers
Graham

Uhm, that calculates to 1336 US Gl!
If that's correct, that's massive.
And defenatly big enough for the fish you got
And pretty unworkable in my opinion, if it is actually 1,7 meters high!
I really need pics, now, for you got my full attention.
If you posted right, i guess you got your scuba gear ready for maintenance.

The outlet tube with the holes should make the top layer of the water circulate.
Best to keep the holes vertically, so they cause as much current in the top layer as possible.
I suppose your filter is a add on to the setup?
What other filtration do you have?
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
