Hello everyone,

I've been cycling my tank for just over 3 weeks. My ammonia levels have dropped to the wonderful level of 0! Big accomplishment. I'm just curious as to when i should see my nitrite levels change? At this time i have both nitrite and nitrate present. I actually did a 30% water change 3 days or so ago, and i don't know when i should see my nitrite levels change.

Any help would be great thanks guys!

Exactly what are the nitrite and nitrate levels? I'm afraid say difficult to tell you exactly how long it will take is everybody's tank is different, it depends on how many fish you've got, what you are feeding, how how big your tank is etc etc.

It shouldn't be too long, normally takes around six to seven weeks to cycle the tank.

sounds good to me. Like i said i'm only about half way through the cycling anyhow. I have a 77 gallon tank right now with 7 goldfish in it. I've been feeding them just regular flaked goldfish food.

My nitrite levels are somewhere in the ballpark of 1.6mg/L and my nitrate is hovering at about 50 mg/L.

Thanks for the quick response!

As your ammonia is now zero i dont think you will have to wait long for the nitrite to start falling and then to get to zero. Watch your nitrate levels, 50 is high for oscars so make sure you get that down to below 40 preferably below 20 before adding your oscars
