Ok guys...got the aquarium tonight and all I want to do at this point is put the glass tops on and see how the light fixture is placed, but I can't figure it out. I knew this was gonna happen.

I took a couple pics hoping that you all may be able to help me out.

Here is the whole set up:

Glass top- is this clear vinyl strip supposed to go on the way it is shown here?

Another pic with glass top on

The light fixture- there are no other parts- does it just sit on top of the tank?? Wouldn't it tend to melt the plastic that seperates the two sides of the tank?

Please help

Thank you!!

If you don't want the lights just lying on top of the sliding lids then I would imagine you will need a hood on the tank, the lights normally fit inside it. I think can also get different systems that fit over the tank with the lights on. I could be wrong, but I think this may be what you have to do. Why don't you ask the person who you got the tank off what they did

I guess if the light fixture can sit on top of the glass it's ok with me. I just thought it shouldn't I guess...
I will have to go back to the store for the gravel soon, so I will check out the way they have the display set up. I just get impatient and wanted to know now,

Thanks

Looks something like my oscar tank set up. Yes, the lights sit directly on top of the glass, no it doesn't melt the plastic divider. As for the vinyl strips that go on the back, I'm not sure, I just left mine off so I wouldn't have to worry about making the cut-outs.... looks right though.

Fluro tubes dont get hot enough to melt anything so not to worry about that the light will defnit not melt the plastic divider

I have a question. I will be getting the 150gal with the same pine stand that is pictured here and I was wondering what your thoughts are on the following. My husband is very handy with building. And, we/I came up with an idea of putting the tank and on a very low
custom fit dolly/support platform to fit the tank and then put these industrial wheels/casters on it all the way around so that if we every need to move the tank away from the wall we can very gently do so.
Has anyone, would anyone do this??? Because right now we
put the tank on hold because we had wanted to redo the room it was going in and put a new carpet in it. Not that we can afford it but once the tank was is in thats it. If
you think we can do what I mentioned then maybe we could just get the tank and do the rest as we have $$.

Thanks!

Stacy,

Thank you for the info. I thought I might take the vinyl strips off too for the same reason.

Thanks Vbaby- good to know!

Margaret I think putting wheels on the stand sounds like a great idea!

Hm, I dunno. Never got such an idea yet although it certainly would be cool to be able to move a tank around if need be.
You mean like you would move it empty or when it's full? I would never dare to even think about the latter with a tank of that size - considering the pressure the water could create when being moved, I'd be afraid the glass might crack. I mean, that whole thing incl. water and stand would weigh almost a ton as well. But maybe it's just me being a coward.

I wouldnt move a 150 Gallon tank, the amount of pressure that 150g's of water puts on the glass is just gonna coz havoc if you move it around. seriously you dont want 150g on your lounge floor.

trust me 150g of water in yr house looks alot more than that bit you see in the tank.

I didn't think about what metoo & Vbaby pointed out. Maybe it's not such a great idea.

Hey im trying to change around the set up of my tank, I know you can buy sand to put in the bottom instead of gravel, but could I just buy regular sandbox sand for a more natural look?

I've used that before, taken right from the kids' sandbox. It was no problem, just gotta rinse it well (also for new sand). It's very fine sand usually.
