I have water and gravel in my aquarium. An appropriate heater and filter. I dont have much, closer to any, money. And i have put a lot of research into Oscars. I was wondering if it is possible to keep a healthy Oscar in a tank that hasnt been "cycled" I dont have much money for any water solution or a kit. Help?

to cycle a tank you can add several (depending on tank size) goldfish, and let it cycle.

Now if your oscar is already in there, the only things you can do is to daily water changes, or return him to the store.

What type of filter are you using? that will make a difference in money expenditure.

Hi, pretty much the same questions as the rest really re: tank size etc..

also, if you have a mate who has a fish tank you could ask them to lend u one or 2 of their filter sponges, straight out of the tank, so u can squeeze them out into YOUR filter... assuming your friends tank is cycled of course, this will help greatly, even better if you can get a gallong or so of their tank water..

just another suggestion, this is pretty much how I cycle my tanks..

It is a 55 Gallon. And i have a koi, black moor, and a few "feeder" fish. I got them cuz my mom wanted me to get something to "bring the tank alive" and they were only 19cents each. But i have had them for a month or two

I would hate to sound harsh but bottom line fish keeping is expensive, oscar's especially. You owe it to yourself and your possibly O to ask your self can you really afford him?
2x Red Oscar
1x Jack Dempsey
1x Green Terror
1x Leopard Pleco

Once you have bought the tank filter etc keeping oscars is not expensive. You just need dechlorinator and food

Do you have a cannister filter and what type and also a test kit (the bottle types for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and Ph)
