I am wanting to get an oscar or two, but I only really have room for a ten gallon tank. Is that going to be ok for the oscars? Also what temp does the water need to be, and how long do I need to let it sit before I add the oscars? Anything and everything else you would think would be helpful would be appreciated!

The best advice I can give you is to read the entire site.

You CAN NOT put Oscars in a 10 gallon tank. They require 55 gallons each. I have an oscar that is 14 inches long. And 2 more that are over 12 inches.

The tank at 55 gallons each will require LARGE expensive filters. And they will have to cycle for about 5 weeks.

PLEASE if all you have room for is a 10 gallon, think guppies!

Is it dangerous for them to be in a small tank? I have found that they need 30 gallons each, but it didnt really say why. I know that they grow to their environment, just like goldfish, but is it detremental to their health that they need so much room?

yes it is dangerous for them to be in that small of a tank. and yes it is detrimental to their health. They will get LOTS of different illnesses, and keeping their water clean enough will be IMPOSSIBLE!

They do NOT grow to their environment, they grow until they are full grown. IF you put an Oscar in that small of a tank, it will have a miserable slow death. and it will be torture.

There are a lot of here who spend an unbelievable amount of time, learning everything we can about HAPPY fish keeping, and teaching others. Trust me when I say, NO SMALLER than 55 gallons.

10 g's will never work, for a goldfish, OR an oscar. they dont stop growing, try telling that to my 8" common and 10" veiltail goldfish.

Ok well thank you for the input. I will see what I can do about size or fish wish. I still do want to get an oscar, but I will put more thought into it. Thanks once again.

If you really only have room for a small tank - you could get a 5-gallon tank with a SINGLE betta -they are easy to care for and can become quite personable; not to mention they are quite lovely and easy to come by. I have one in a 4.5 gallon tank and he's a great little fish and very easy to care for.

If you search this forum for betta, there is a member who has actually trained their betta fish!

or start small with guppies. thhey will stay small, but will need a small tank, and no biorb. Bettas can be in there, for they can breath air.
i had a arowana in a biorb, but my goldfish ate him...lol

Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
