I recently put some african river sand in my tank about two weeks ago and the water still looks a tad bit cloudy. It is a pretty fine grained sand, do you think this is the problem or maybe a filter issue. I am using an aqua tech 30-60 with no luck, will a better filter clear up this problem? I am just worried the sand is to fine.

To rule out water quality problems just carry out a test for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. If you find you have ammonia present them could possibly be why you have cloudy water. However, it could well be that the sand was a little dirty when you put it in and it's taking a little bit of time to clear.

thanks for the insight. I checked the ph and its 7.6 i need to go buy a test kit for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. The tank is only 2wks old so hopefully i just didn't clean the sand good enough.

the tank has only been set up for two weeks? Basically this means that you are at the beginning of your cycle which could explain why you have cloudy water. What fish have you got? It is extremely important that you get some tests ASAP. Get back to us as soon as you got them because we are going to ask you to test the water.
